Wolves Old and New Play Part in December Presence Cup

Wolves Staff

Heading into the Christmas Break. The UofA Pandas will be hosting the Presence Cup December 29-31. The Holiday Showcase will include the UofA (9), University of New Brunswick (6), MacEwan University and the University of Windsor.  Its premise is to celebrate the connection in women’s hockey through the UofA. Coach Deanna Iwanicka (Windsor), Coach Sarah Hilworth (UNB) and Lindsay McAlpine (AAD MacEwan) all having played for Coach Howie Draper. Coach Hilworth was also an Assistant Coach under Coach Draper.

The Wolves have their own little presence during the holiday showcase.

Taylor Kezama is a standout fourth year defensemen for the Pandas and also wears an “A”.  Kezama played for a powerhouse Wolves squad in  2019/20 and 2020/21.  Both seasons were cut short by Covid-19. Switching from defense to forward. Taylor received the Wolves Top Forward award in 19/20.

Maggie Peterson is a home grown EGHA talent who is currently in her second year at the University of Windsor. Also wearing an “A”.  Peterson is currently 3rd in OUA scoring with 6 G, 10 A, 16 PTS. Maggie played on the Wolves in a Covid-19 shortened season in 2020/21.

Current Manager and Assistant Coach Hayley Butz was a player from 2016/17 - 2019/20. Our former captain will suit up as part of the officiating group for the holiday showcase. The Level 4 Official was recently an invitee of the Hockey Canada Officiating Program of Excellence Summer Camp and has been selected to represent Alberta at the Canada Winter Games in PEI later this winter.

Hernan Iglesias is the Western Canadian Scout for Windsor.  Hernan was the head Coach of the Wolves for 3.5 seasons.  He also led the Wolves to an AJFHL and Provincial Championship in 2018/19.  Iglesias was an integral part of the rebuild that has made the Wolves the successful program it is today.

Current Wolves Head Coach / Director Bryan Toles is the Western Canadian Scout for UNB.  Toles will head behind the Reds bench for the first time during the Holiday Showcase. Later in January, Toles will head back behind the bench in Fredricton for AUS conference play while Coach Sarah Hilworth and Coach Kyle MacDonald head to Lake Placid as part of Team Canada for the FISU World University Games.
